ABOUT
Adventure: Wanderlust Tours is beyond excited to bring this event to life as part of our co-led tour series with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. Join us for this co-led sunset hiking tour, and enjoy the reward of stunning panoramas and an informative hike during which we will learn about the connection between this incredible area and the Warm Springs Tribes. ((Is saying “Warm Springs Tribes” accurate in encapsulating the three different tribes))
Naturalist Guided Experience: Arriving at the awe-inspiring Smith Rock State Park, we. will begin our descent into the Crooked River canyon and hike along the spectacular riparian habitat. From here our options are many, from a beautiful and flat wander along the river scouting for otters and osprey to a steeper hike up a ridge for stunning views of the Cascade Mountains! Both hikes will enliven the senses and spark wonder at the fantastic geology that shapes this incredible canyon. This special hiking tour will feature interpretation from both our award-winning naturalist guides as well as Starla “Pah tin why” Green, a member of the Warm Springs Tribe, with a deeper focus on the cultural and historical significance of this incredible area to the native Warm Springs, Wasco, and Paiutes.

Starla "Pah tin wy" Green
Member of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs
Starla grew up on the banks of the Deschutes River, on the Reservation with her grandparents and parents. She was raised to live and carry out their traditional and cultural ways, still living by those ways today. Starla is a traditional food gatherer and protector of her traditional way of life and their Indigenous foods.
Starla retired from a career in law enforcement, but continues to work in the tourism industry and economic development. She is a graduate of Western Oregon University and has one daughter who is on track to graduate and ready to pursue her college career.
We are very fortunate to be able to work with Starla for the co-led tour series.
